The 2026 World Cup attracted 6.8 million viewers and generated $10.5 billion in advertising spending, becoming one of the largest sporting events in terms of on-chain activity. According to Chainalysis, activity in predictive markets reached $20 billion since January 2026, with $5.7 billion during the tournament, involving nearly 400,000 wallets and yielding 55% profits. On the day Spain defeated Argentina, over $300 million in volume was generated. Markets related to the World Cup accounted for approximately 63% of total volumes. Less than 1% of wallets were linked to illicit activities, totaling $5.4 million, indicating that the majority of transactions were legitimate. FIFA has also integrated its ecosystem into the blockchain via its FIFA Collect platform for NFTs, generating around $24 million in payments, including $6 million in secondary market revenue. This platform allowed 100,000 supporters to obtain tickets through an early purchase right, reducing fraud risks through KYC identification.
