High-ranking officials from digital asset companies, including Coinbase and Ripple Labs, met with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick to urge the swift passage of the CLARITY Act, which aims to provide clarity in the digital asset market. This meeting took place just before President Trump's speech at the White House, where discussions were held regarding the positive impact the bill's passage could have on U.S. economic growth and job creation. Attendees at the White House event on the 19th included Brian Armstrong, CEO of Coinbase, Chris Dixon, a16z partner, and Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple Labs. The executives emphasized that the CLARITY Act is essential for attracting digital asset companies to the U.S. and revitalizing the economy. The bill aims to establish clear requirements for participants in the digital asset market, prioritize consumer protection, and promote innovation. The CLARITY Act will establish the CFTC's exclusive jurisdiction over the digital goods spot market while maintaining the SEC's jurisdiction. A significant hurdle to the bill's passage is the ethics clause issue, as Democratic lawmakers are demanding regulations that prohibit senior federal officials from creating and sponsoring digital assets. The Senate is scheduled to vote on a motion to end debate on the bill on September 15, requiring at least 60 votes in favor for passage. This meeting is seen as a sign that the administration is moving towards policy coordination with the digital asset industry, indicating that regulatory authorities are actively working to secure clarity in digital asset regulation.
