Prefer us on GoogleClaudia Sheinbaum, President of Mexico, confirmed that she will not attend the inauguration ceremony of Abelardo de la Espriella as President of Colombia, scheduled for August 7 in Cali. However, her government will send an official representation. Sheinbaum indicated that it has not yet been determined who will attend, but there will be a delegation. The ceremony will gather several heads of state, including Javier Milei, who will attend after a bilateral meeting in Ecuador. De la Espriella will assume the presidency after winning in the second electoral round in June, amid tensions with outgoing President Gustavo Petro, who questioned the results. Despite Sheinbaum's absence, the Mexican delegation aims to maintain institutional continuity in bilateral relations. Mexico and Colombia share a common agenda on trade, migration, and security issues, although the new Colombian government will have a political orientation different from that of Petro.
