Diesel Fuel Reserves at Zaporizhzhia NPP Stand at 50%

The diesel fuel reserves at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant are approximately 50% of the required volume, which will ensure the operation of the plant in autonomous mode for 11 days. The head of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, stated the necessity of filling the tanks to create a fuel reserve in case of prolonged operation without external power supply. Since July 3, the ZNPP has been without external electricity supply and has switched to backup diesel generators, marking the 21st blackout since the occupation by Russian troops. The 750 kV line has not been operational for over three months, and the plant relies on a single 330 kV line. The diesel fuel shortage is exacerbated by the nationwide fuel crisis in Russia, caused by attacks on oil refining facilities. The Zaporizhzhia NPP, seized in March 2022, is not generating electricity, and six reactors are in a cold shutdown state. The IAEA maintains a constant presence to monitor safety and has noted a deterioration in the cooling system situation. The water level in the cooling reservoir is decreasing due to the destruction of the Kakhovka reservoir dam. The IAEA insists on the construction of a pumping station to cool the reactors.
