An Ethereum staking proposal, EIP-8363, aims to lower the native-yield baseline for SharpLink's ETH treasury, increasing reliance on higher-risk returns. The proposal would progressively burn a larger share of consensus rewards as staked ETH rises, reaching a burn factor of 1 at 60.25 million ETH, reducing net consensus yield to zero. This threshold is described as 49.5% of the modeled supply. EIP-8363 is a candidate for Ethereum's Hegotá upgrade, with no established mainnet date, and if adopted, would phase in a permanent reduction over 548 days. As of August 8, 41.18 million ETH was staked from a total supply of 120.68 million ETH, indicating a staking ratio of about 34.13%. SharpLink, which manages an ETH treasury, has marketed its stock as offering yield generation above native staking rates. The Ethereum proposal is significant for SharpLink as its annual report includes staking and trading as part of its strategy. EIP-8363's zero point applies only to net consensus yield, while priority fees and maximal extractable value are outside this calculation. The planned Galaxy SharpLink Onchain Yield Fund, with proposed commitments of 125 million dollars, aims to utilize SharpLink's staked ETH treasury for DeFi liquidity protocols. However, these commitments have not been confirmed as funded or deployed. The proposal would not eliminate SharpLink's yield but would reduce the role of native issuance in its return strategy, increasing the focus on execution income and risk management.
