Houthi Forces Take Control of Mocha Port, Increasing Risks for Red Sea Shipping
On September 10, the Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces announced significant progress in the northern and central desert regions, seemingly breaking through Houthi defenses. However, the Houthis have actually redeployed their forces, voluntarily abandoning open areas to seize more critical coastal regions in the west. By early Thursday, the Houthis had taken control of the strategically significant Mocha Port and the Red Sea coastline. This change is not a rapid offensive by one side, but rather a territorial exchange, with the Houthis gaining a strategic position along the Red Sea, potentially posing a more direct threat to shipping in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and increasing security risks for Saudi Arabia.
