Korean Retail Investors Net Buy Japanese Semiconductor Stocks, Murata and Tokyo Electron Lead
On August 17, data from the Korea Securities Depository showed that from August 3 to 14, Korean investors net bought Japanese stocks, with Murata Manufacturing ranking first at approximately $5.319 million, followed by Tokyo Electron at about $2.262 million. Semiconductor materials manufacturer Arisawa Manufacturing and testing equipment manufacturer Micronics ranked third and fourth, respectively. Among the top ten net purchases, six were related to semiconductors and electronic components, totaling approximately $14.367 million, accounting for 73% of the total net purchases in the top ten. Expanding the scope to the top twenty, companies in the supply chain such as Fujikura and Renesas Electronics also made significant appearances. Unlike before, in July, the buying focus of Korean retail investors had spread to financial stocks, but this month, funds have refocused on the Japanese semiconductor supply chain. Kioxia rebounded quickly this month after a sharp decline of about 48% in July, with its stock price rising from 46,500 yen at the end of July to 53,740 yen on August 14, an increase of about 16%. As of August 13, Kioxia had net purchases of about $970,000, rising to sixth place, but from August 3 to 14, it recorded cumulative net sales of approximately $3.745 million, ranking second in net sales. Market sentiment is supported by expectations of AI investments spreading across the entire storage supply chain, as Kioxia and SanDisk jointly released the ninth-generation 2Tb QLC flash memory, targeting AI and data-intensive applications.
