South Korea's Five Major Financial Groups Report Net Profit of 131.2 Trillion Won in First Half of 2026
The five major financial groups in South Korea (KB Financial, Shinhan Financial, Hana Financial, Woori Financial, and NH Nonghyup Financial) achieved a combined net profit of 131.2 trillion won in the first half of 2026, marking an approximate 10% year-on-year increase. KB Financial topped the list with a net profit of 38.8 trillion won, followed by Shinhan Financial with 34.4 trillion won. The performance of their securities subsidiaries saw significant growth, with NH Investment & Securities, KB Securities, and Shinhan Investment Corp. reporting year-on-year net profit increases of 107.5%, 135.0%, and 123.1%, respectively. The contribution of non-banking operations to the group's profits continues to rise. Several insurance subsidiaries faced pressure on their performance due to rising payout ratios and adjustments in actuarial assumptions. The major financial groups announced plans to continue share buybacks and cancellations in the second half of the year to further enhance shareholder returns.
