Step App sets Aug. 21 shutdown deadline

The team said the application recorded "1M+ downloads" and "billions of steps tracked." Those figures are company-reported and were not independently audited. Step App framed the closure as a final operational wind-down rather than a migration to another product or token. It has not announced a buyer, restructuring process or continuation plan.

Step App gives users two weeks to exit

Step App combined fitness tracking with blockchain rewards. Users could earn the KCAL in-game token through activity and use FITFI for governance, network fees, staking and marketplace functions. The project operated across Step Network and Avalanche, with separate FITFI contract addresses listed on its website.

The shutdown notice did not explain what will remain available after Aug. 21. It also did not specify whether wallets, the marketplace, Step Exchange, the bridge, token claims or account data exports will continue.

Users should therefore complete actions through verified project channels and confirm the destination network before transferring assets. Sending tokens through an unsupported network could delay or prevent recovery.

As previously reported in earlier move-to-earn launch coverage, Olympic champion Usain Bolt introduced the product in Japan in 2022 as its global ambassador. The app promoted walking and running rewards through FITFI, KCAL and SNEAK nonfungible tokens.

FITFI exchange access was already shrinking

The closure follows several exchange decisions involving FITFI. Bithumb announced on July 16 that it would end FITFI trading at 15:00 KST on Aug. 18 because the reason for its earlier warning designation had not been resolved. Withdrawals are scheduled to close on Sept. 18, one month after trading ends, according to the exchange's notice.

Bithumb placed FITFI on its warning list in April after the token's combined market capitalization and trading activity across domestic and overseas exchanges fell below its policy thresholds. KuCoin separately removed Step App on July 30 and set Aug. 31 as its withdrawal deadline in an official announcement. Bybit had announced a FITFI spot delisting in April.

The supplied account also attributes a July 16 delisting announcement to Upbit. However, no corresponding official Upbit notice was located during this review, so that claim is not treated as confirmed.

These exchange deadlines are separate from Step App's Aug. 21 service closure. Holders should check each venue's withdrawal rules, supported network and cutoff time rather than assume the project deadline applies everywhere. Exchange withdrawal support may also end earlier if onchain transfers stop working.

FITFI's decline closes a volatile four-year cycle

FITFI reached an all-time high of $0.7319 on May 5, 2022, according to CoinGecko data. Its public sale price was $0.0049, placing the peak at about 149 times the sale price. That historical return describes the highest recorded price, not gains realized by every buyer.

Step App's 2022 review said more than one million people registered before launch, while the app recorded over 115,000 downloads in its first month. The project later reported passing one million downloads, but it did not publish audited usage, revenue or retention figures with the shutdown notice.

The closure adds to a wider group of crypto applications that have wound down during 2026. In related platform closure coverage, DeFi app Legend said it would shut after failing to reach sustainable scale. Step App, by contrast, did not disclose why continued operations were no longer viable.

The immediate priority is asset access. Users with locked positions have until Aug. 21 under the project's stated timetable, while Bithumb and KuCoin users face their exchanges' separate dates. The team has not announced compensation, a token swap, a successor platform or a formal plan for services remaining after the deadline. Further instructions would need to come through verified project accounts.
