Tesla Launches Cybercab Robotaxi in Austin
Tesla has begun offering rides in its two-seater Cybercab robotaxi in select areas of Austin, Texas. The vehicle is completely devoid of a steering wheel and pedals. CEO Elon Musk stated that the Cybercab is a key element in transforming the company into a leader in autonomous transportation. At a special event, futuristic golden cars with butterfly doors were showcased. Anyone interested can try out the new service. The launch of the autonomous vehicle without human oversight has attracted the attention of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which is already assessing the situation and engaging with Tesla. The company has updated its website, confirming the availability of rides in Texas, but the exact date for charging fares has not yet been disclosed. Dynamic pricing is expected to be implemented, offering premium service at the price of a regular bus. The launch of the Cybercab is part of Musk's ambitious plan to create a global network of robotaxis, where owners can rent their cars to a shared fleet. Analysts note that Tesla's ambitions in the field of autopilot contribute to the company's high valuation of $1.4 trillion. Series production of the Cybercab started in April, but the company warns of slow production rates in the initial phase. Previously, Tesla sought an employee to test driver assistance technologies in New York, which may indicate plans to expand the service to the largest metropolis in the U.S. Public trials of the robotaxi in Austin have already led to road issues, including management errors and traffic violations.
