Trump Says Israel Should Stop Attacks on Gaza
On August 18, U.S. President Trump stated that Israel should not target Gaza. Trump's envoy, Jared Kushner, met with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu on Monday in an attempt to salvage a plan to disarm Hamas and end the war in Gaza. The leaders of the U.S. and Israel have publicly shown rare differences. Netanyahu rejected Trump's proposal last week for a phased disarmament of Hamas. Israel resumed almost daily attacks on Palestinian militants after a brief pause. In an interview with Fox News, Trump said that Israel should not carry out these attacks because Hamas has agreed to lay down its arms.
