Ukraine and Lithuania Strengthen Cooperation to Save Grain Exports

Ukraine and Lithuania are developing alternative logistics and combating the illegal turnover of agricultural products exported by Russia from occupied territories. Ukraine's Minister of Agrarian Policy Taras Vysotsky and Lithuania's Minister of Agriculture Kęstutis Navickas discussed this in an online meeting. Vysotsky reported on the dire situation in the ports of Greater Odessa, where civilian shipping is under attack from the Russian Federation. In August, Ukraine exported only one-third of its potential agricultural output. Land routes and the Danube cannot fully replace deep-water ports. If the situation does not change, more than 30 million tons of harvest will remain unexported, and financial losses will exceed 10 billion dollars. Lithuania is considering Ukraine's request for assistance with temporary grain storage. The blocking of stolen grain was also discussed, with the harvest in occupied territories estimated at 9.5-10 million tons. Ukraine is calling for enhanced checks on the origin of grain from the Russian Federation through Baltic ports. The Lithuanian side confirmed its readiness to share control experience and invited Ukraine to coordinate at the EU Council level (AGRIFISH). Next year, grain production in Ukraine may decrease to 40 million tons due to a possible reduction in sown areas.
