US Pushes for Regulations on Chinese Data Center Components

Prefer us on GoogleThe Trump administration is pushing for measures to restrict the use of key components from Chinese data centers within the United States. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is preparing regulations to limit the use of data center components, including Chinese optical transceivers. Optical transceivers are essential equipment that determines the network performance of data centers, and if these regulations are implemented, AI data centers in the US will no longer be able to use Chinese equipment. Over the past year, the US has tightened export controls on China's AI industry, and this move expands the scope of regulations to include AI infrastructure equipment. The US government is pursuing these regulations citing national security concerns, believing that security risks could arise from foreign companies' access. China has strongly opposed the US's regulatory push, warning that it will take all necessary measures. Additionally, the US government is also reviewing regulations on Chinese open-weight AI models.
