Three out of five oil tankers struck by the US military on September 8 are linked to Russia's shadow fleet. The vessels Kaviz, Charminar, and Riesco were transporting crude from Russian ports, helping to circumvent international restrictions. All three tankers are under sanctions from Ukraine and the US, with Kaviz also blacklisted by the EU, UK, Canada, and Switzerland. Kaviz docked at the ports of Ust-Luga and Novorossiysk, disabled its navigation tracking system, and is associated with Fractal Marine DMCC. Charminar was loaded at the ports of Ust-Luga, Primorsk, Vysotsk, and St. Petersburg, was transferred to different management after British sanctions, but continued its voyages, also linked to Iranian oil magnate Hossein Shamkhani. Riesco transported crude from both countries and participated in oil transshipment at sea. Vladislav Vlasyuk noted that the schemes of Moscow and Tehran are intertwined, and such vessels become part of the infrastructure for circumventing sanctions, requiring a tough response.
