Exchanges Receive 14,000 Bitcoins After Coldcard Attack
Prefer us on GoogleInvestors deposited around 14,000 bitcoins into exchanges due to the attack on Coldcard wallets, which resulted in losses of 1,367 bitcoins (87 million dollars). Despite the increase in deposits, the price of Bitcoin remains stable at around 63,800 dollars. Coldcard users reported significant losses, and the company recommended transferring funds to other wallets. Data from CryptoQuant indicates that over 10,000 BTC were sent to exchanges in the last 33 hours, raising the total amount of bitcoins on exchanges to the highest level in 30 days. Changpeng Zhao from Binance warned about the risks of self-custody, highlighting that previous vulnerabilities may still leave wallets exposed. The attack on Coldcard affected 4,585 addresses, with three waves of attacks draining 1,195, 1,478, and 1,912 addresses, respectively. Despite the crisis, Bitcoin continues to withstand this event.
