Iran Demands Vessels Passing Through the Strait of Hormuz Must Navigate Iranian Waters
Iran has rejected Oman’s proposal for a regional mechanism for joint management of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, insisting that vessels passing through the strait must follow one route that completely traverses Iranian waters and another that partially does. A senior Iranian official stated that the entire inbound route and part of the outbound route must be controlled by Iran, and Oman’s control should correspond to its share in the waterway. Establishing a joint management mechanism with equal shares does not align with Iran’s interests. The official emphasized that only Iran and Oman can determine the management of the Strait of Hormuz based on their respective shares, rejecting any influence from other countries. Additionally, the official revealed that the United States and Saudi Arabia are attempting to pressure Oman to advance their plans regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
