Ripple is expanding the XRPL into an institutional tokenized asset infrastructure within its payment network. On July 23, Ripple unveiled Ripple Mint, a unified platform that allows institutional clients to issue, redeem, and manage Ripple Dollars (RLUSD). Ripple Dollars are designed as a stablecoin backed by a 1:1 dollar redemption and cash or cash-equivalent reserves. Ripple is integrating Ripple Dollars, Ripple Mint, custody and trading infrastructure, and XRPL lending standards into a single operational system for institutions. DBS and Franklin Templeton are working towards a memorandum of understanding set to be signed in September 2025, allowing eligible institutional clients to trade Franklin Templeton's tokenized money market fund token sgBENJI using Ripple Dollars on the DBS digital exchange. The XRPL lending protocol is broadening the scope of asset utilization into the credit domain, and Ripple has proposed a standardized approach for loan execution, interest calculation, repayment, and default handling on-chain. Ripple's institutional tokenization strategy focuses on connecting asset issuance with collateral and credit, with the next steps involving validator approval for XLS-65 and XLS-66.
