SpaceX Demands Exclusion of Chinese Equipment and Personnel

SpaceX is inspecting whether global suppliers are involved in the contract production lines of Chinese security equipment and personnel of Chinese nationality. SpaceX has sent audit personnel to its partners, demanding the removal of Chinese security equipment and the exclusion of Chinese nationals from component-related tasks. The internal standard is 'NCNT (non-China, non-Taiwan)', which refers to a supply chain management system aimed at reducing dependence on components and equipment from China and Taiwan. The inspection targets not only direct transactions with Chinese companies but also Chinese components or equipment used by the subcontractors of its partners. SpaceX is engaged in launch and satellite operations connected to NASA, the U.S. Department of Defense, and the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), and NASA's Office of Inspector General has reported that SpaceX's Crew Dragon has completed 12 crewed missions to the International Space Station since its certification in 2020. Starlink emphasizes secure communications and satellite operations tailored to government agency requirements, and strengthening supply chain audits could impact launch vehicles and satellite communication equipment. The connection between SpaceX and the Chinese supply chain is also evident in public records, including a record of importing goods related to Hon Hai Precision Industry located in Shenzhen, China, in January 2022. If the NCNT standard is applied to contracts, the existing transaction structure with Chinese suppliers may also be subject to inspection.
